Pre-Meeting Workshop

Interpreting NGS Reports: A Practical Guide for Clinicians, Researchers, and Students

Date: 14 November 2025

Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Reporting time: 8:30 am)

Venue: Hall No. 3, ICSR Complex, IIT Madras

Open to Students, Clinicians and Researchers

Workshop Overview

Designed for clinicians, researchers, and students, a focused pre-meeting workshop aims to the gap between next-generation sequencing (NGS) data and clinical research applications.

This interactive session will equip clinicians, researchers, and students with foundational and advanced skills to understand, interpret, and apply NGS reports to patient care and translational research.

Participants will learn how to navigate the complexities of genomic data, interpret variant annotations, assess clinical relevance, and understand the impact of findings in a real-world setting.

Learning Objectives

  • Basics of NGS workflows and reporting
  • Interpretation of genomic findings (mutations, CNVs, biomarkers)
  • Evaluating clinical relevance: actionable vs non-actionable
  • Avoiding common pitfalls
  • Applying NGS insights in research and clinical settings

Format

  • Introductory talks
  • Hands-on interpretation exercises
  • Expert panel Q&A
  • Small group case challenges

Certification: Certificate of Participation for all attendees

Open to all ICGA2025 registrants under student and faculty/delegate category. Workshop seats are limited. Separate fee applies (see under registration tab).

Who Should Attend

  • Postgraduate students in medicine, molecular biology, and genomics
  • Clinical oncologists and pathologists
  • Researchers and translational scientists
  • Medical fellows and residents

No prior deep knowledge of genomics or bioinformatics is required.

Key Takeaways

  • Confident interpretation of NGS clinical reports
  • Understanding of common genetic alterations in cancer
  • Practical framework for applying NGS data in research and clinical decision-making
  • Networking opportunity with experts and peers in genomics
